How to facilitate sponsorships for open source projects
09-23, 16:35–17:05 (Europe/Lisbon), Auditorium

We discuss financial sponsorships in open source project, from the point of view of open source maintainers: When and how to introduce sponsorships, what to offer, how to make it easy for companies to pay, and how to get paid as a maintainer.

In this session, we will present the audience with the ins and outs of managing sponsorships for a project, and answer questions such as:

  • When is it worth introducing sponsorships in an open source project?
  • How to make it as easy as possible for companies to pay?
  • What to offer to enterprise sponsors?
  • How to transparently manage and redistribute the money?

We will present OpenCollective and introduce the audience to the legal and financial problems it solves.

The author of this talk maintains dj-stripe, a Stripe-sponsored Django project that has redistributed money to multiple developers, maintainers, contractors and organizations for paid work.
